nvtNovember 26 - Glasgow 2014 has awarded the Commonwealth Games technology services integrator contract, reported to be worth more than £2 million ($3.2 million/€2.5 million), to the NVT Group in a move that is set to create up to 15 apprenticeships with the Scottish company.

Based in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, NVT will plan, design, implement, test and operate the technology infrastructure and Games network services across venues, including all sports facilities, the Athletes' Village and the Main Press Centre.

"I'm delighted to have NVT Group – a home-grown Scottish IT business success story – bring its expertise to enable us to maximise the performance of the technology required to deliver a modern multi-sports global event," David Grevemberg, Glasgow 2014's chief executive, said.

"Effective technology infrastructure and service platforms are essential to ensuring the high levels of connectivity and information flow that are essential to delivering a high-performance Games environment."

Stephen Park Brown, managing director of NVT Group, was equally pleased to become an Official Supporter of Glasgow 2014.

Scotland's Commonwealth Games Minister Shona Robison also welcomed the announcement and the opportunities it represents for creating a lasting legacy from hosting the Games.

"NVT Group is another Scottish company that will help make Glasgow 2014 great," she explained.

"I am particularly pleased that NVT Group will create apprenticeships to give young people new skills to work in our IT industry, another tangible legacy from hosting the Games."

NVT will now begin to work with other Glasgow 2014 supporters, including Dell, Atos and Longines to design its IT solutions for the Games.
