The meeting saw North Korea and South Korea leave with honours even as they claimed one victory each in their two matches.

In their women's doubles meeting South Korea's Park and Yang overcame the North Korean duo of Yang and Kim in the third round.

Then, in the mixed doubles, the North Korea pair of Kim and Kim levelled the score by beating their South Korea counterparts Cho and Yang to reach the mixed doubles semi-final.

"It is heart-warming to see players from DPR Korea and Korea Republic competing against each other with full respect at the World Championships," said International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) President Adham Sharara.

"I still remember in November 2011 when players from both countries played side by side in the 'Peace Cup' in Doha.

"I am very proud that the ITTF is a positive catalyst to bring nations closer together."
