Clyde with foam handMay 22 - London-based company Pitch has been appointed to handle public relations for next year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, it was announced today.

Campaigns in the lead up to the Games will include supporting Glasgow 2014's ticketing programme, beginning with the publication of a ticketing brochure on July 23, a year before the Opening Ceremony is due to take place.

The agency will also play a leading role in sharing the stories and opportunities offered by Games, the first time they have been held in Scotland since Edinburgh 1986, an event affected by financial problems and the boycott of leading African nations over the British Government's links to South Africa's apartheid regime.

"Pitch brings considerable experience from their work on a range of leading UK and international sporting events and we look forward to working with them to maximise all the opportunities presented by the world class festival of sport and culture which will take place in Glasgow and Scotland next year," said Gordon Arthur, chief communications officer at Glasgow 2014.

Pitch has worked on previous high profile sporting events, including London 2012 and England's failed bid to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

It also works for Channel 4 and BT Sport.

"Glasgow 2014 will be one of the highlights of the sporting calendar next year, and we're thrilled to be handed a major role in helping to deliver what looks set to be the best ever Commonwealth Games," said Henry Chappell, the chief executive of Pitch.
