The OCA President during his visit to the Al-Zatari refugee campJune 5 - Sheikh Ahmed Al-Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), has visited a Syrian refugee camp as part of his work to help promote peace through sport in conflict zones throughout the continent.

The Kuwaiti International Olympic Committee (IOC) member (pictured top, centre) visited the Al-Zatari Camp on the border of Jordan and Syria, which has become the temporary home to some 120,000 Syrians, including 70,000 children, who have fled their country in the wake of the ongoing conflict that is believed to have cost at least 80,000 lives already.

"The aim of the visit was to create social awareness and also encourage the children and youth stationed in the camp to practice sports and physical education and become a responsible individual in society," read a statement from the OCA.

The President also donated footballs and sports equipment to the children and "hoped that some of them would be future national players for their countries".
