Patrick Chamunda, the IOC member from Zambia, has been taken ill at the Session in Buenos AiresSeptember 8 - An unexpected absentee so far from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session at the Hilton hotel in Buenos Aires has been Patrick Chamunda, the member from Zambia.

The IOC told insidethegames that Chamunda, 68, is in hospital after being stricken by what it described as an "acute condition".

While said to be "improving", the IOC explained it was not yet clear when Chamunda would be discharged from hospital.

Chamunda, former President of his National Olympic Committee, was one of 101 IOC members who had travelled here to take part in the four-day Session.

But the illness meant he missed the vital vote yesterday on which city should host the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, which was awarded to Tokyo, and also today's on which sport should be included on the programme for the Games in that year.
