The WSF are hoping that World Squash Day will help the sport rebuild after they lost out on being in the 2020 OlympicsSeptember 20 - The World Squash Federation (WSF) is hoping to see a resurgence following the disappointment of missing out on becoming an Olympic sport to wrestling with next month's World Squash Day.

Squash and baseball-softball lost out to wrestling, as widely-expected, when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) chose which sport would be on the Olympic sports programme for 2020, but WSF President N Ramachandran believes that the sport will bounce back with the day, with a vision of expanding the base of players even further.

"Whilst the squash bid to offer the Olympic Games a genuinely 'new' sport in 2020 was not accepted by the IOC members, the campaign successfully highlighted the credentials of our thriving sport around the world," said Ramachandran.

"World Squash Day can achieve similar targets with its theme of reaching out on October 5th.

"Clubs can reach out to other sports and organisations such as schools, youth clubs and public services, which could benefit from the well-known health and fitness benefits produced by playing squash.

"We have millions of enthusiastic people playing squash all over the world and we want to increase that playing base even further."

This year's theme is "reaching out", and World Squash Day founder Alan Thatcher is hoping to see as many squash as possible from around the world getting involved.

"We are hoping that every squash club on the planet will join in and reach out to another organisation," he said.

"They could be next door, or on the other side of the world.

"The idea is to build connections and create partnerships to help the sport grow.
