Paul de Pace was re-elected as President of IWAS, whilst two new executive board members were appointedSeptember 20 - International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) President Paul de Pace will serve another four-year term in his role after being re-elected without opposition at the General Assembly in Stadskannal.

The American was elected at the General Assembly took place on the sidelines of the IWAS World Games in the Dutch city, which are due to close on Sunday (September 22).

Meanwhile, Russian Pavel Rozhkov and Czech Radka Kucirkova joined the Executive Board in the places of Iran's Seyed Amir Hosseini and Spain's Dr Oriol Martinez, who chose not to put his name forward.

The Estonian and Libyan Paralympic Committees were ratified by the General Assembly of Nations, and the Haitian Paralympic Committee were accepted as members from 2014 onwards.

Estonian Paralympic Committee Executive Board member Õnne Pollisinski spoke of how competing at the IWAS World Games is impacting Para-sport in his nation. 

"For us, the IWAS Games are important because we get to explore different sports and get new ideas that could be also applied at home, because disabled sport has developed a lot in the recent years," he said.

"Our team has consisted of eight sportsmen - six swimmers and two athletes and we have been delighted with our results this week.

"Most of them are still in school and some are already studying at university.

"Our young athletes love to compete and this has been a great opportunity for them to put themselves to the test. "

Polish wheelchair fencer Radoslaw Stanczuk was rewarded for his sportsmanship at the London 2012 Games, in which he lent his chair to Abdul Rahman Razali of Malaysia so that he could complete his pool matches after his own had broken. 

Former IWAS executive director and secretary general Maura Strange was also honoured with the pursuit award for her work and dedication the the IWAS and the Paralympic Movement.
