October 4 - Paul Davies and Rob Davies (centre) celebrate their team gold in LignanoAfter going head to head in the singles final earlier in the week, Britain's Rob Davies and Paul Davies were on the same side of the table as they claimed class one gold in the team events at the European Para Table Tennis Championships in Lignano.

The Welsh duo proved too strong for Germany's Paralympic champion and world number one Holger Nikelis and Marcus Sieger, beating them 3-1 in the key clash before overcoming Italian pair Federico Falco and Marco Pizzurro 3-0.

That ended a successful week for 29-year-old Rob who took home his second gold following his win over great friend and mentor Paul in the singles competition.

In the men's class seven category, Paralympic silver medallist Will Bayley and teammate Paul Karabardak had to make do with a bronze medal after they could not get the better of Spanish duo Alvaro Valera and Alberto Seoane.

But the Spaniards were no match for Mykhaylo Popov and world number one Maxym Nikolenko of the Ukraine in the final, which saw Popov also come away with two gold medals following his win in the singles competition.

It was a similar story for another Ukrainian as class nine singles champion Yuriy Shchepansky added to his gold medal tally with the help of Vadym Kubov in the class nine team event while Sebastian Powrozniak was on hand to see that teammate Patryk Chojnowski enjoyed the same double success as they overcame Spain in the class 10 team final.

Class 11 singles champion Zabit Caglayan took team gold for Turkey with compatriot Garip Olcas, while Germany's Thomas Schmidbergher in class three and Denmark's Peter Rosemeier in class six all completed the singles and team event doubles in Lignano.

In the other men's classes, it was business as usual as all the top seeded French pairs delivered on their favourites tag with Stéphane Molliens and Fabien Lamirault winning class two, Maxime Thomas and Emeric Martin securing the class four title, whilst the class five crown was claimed by Florian Merrien and Nicolas Savant-Aira.

Meanwhile, in two of the four women's team finals, the victorious team also contained players that had earlier claimed their respective singles titles.

Class eight champion France's Thu Kamkasomphu joined forces with colleague Anne Barnéoud to secure the top prize in the team class 6-8 category while class nine champion Neslihan Kavas and class 10 winner Umran Urtis paired up to take home the team class 9-10 crown for Turkey.

There was disappointment for the home crowd as Clara Podda and Michela Brunelli had to settle for silver after losing out to Croatia's Andela Muzinic and Helena Dretar Karic in the class 1-3 competition while class 11 honours went to Poland's Krystyna Siemenienka, Dorita Nowacka and Monika Dobko, who defeated Russia.
