October 21 - The ITRC locate at the International Bowling Campus in Arlington will host the top bowling coaches in the world next MarchThe inaugural World Bowling Coach Conference is scheduled to take place at the International Training and Research Centre (ITRC) located at the International Bowling Campus in Arlington, Texas, next year.

The event, run in conjunction with governing body the World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA), will be first time top coaches from around the world will gather under the one roof.

The main topic of discussion at the Conference, due to take place between March 28 and 30, will surround the establishment of a Global Coaching System for the sport.

A task force of coaches has been working with the WTBA to review international coaching programmes and strategies.

"We have seen encouraging growth for our sport in many parts of the world and identifying credible coaching programmes is an important part of continuing that growth," said Kevin Dornberger, President and chief executive of the WTBA.

"There are several excellent coaching certification and rating programmes in different regions of the world, but no common system to compare credentials.

"This Conference will be a great opportunity for the best coaches in the world to exchange ideas and discuss the concept of worldwide coaching standards."

In addition to a number of leading nationally recognised coaches from across the more than 110 member federations who will be making presentations and running workshops at the conference, any international or domestic coach is also invited to attend the event.

The conference is being fully supported by the three continental federations that make up the WTBA, including the Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON), Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) and the European Bowling Federation (ETBF), along with the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) and leading bowling equipment company Kegel.

"A key mission of the ITRC is to be a resource for all bowling coaches and federations so we are eager to be a partner in the World Bowling (WTBA) Coach Conference concept," said Rod Ross, director of the ITRC and head coach of Team USA.

"The sport will benefit from a regular gathering of coaches to discuss best practices and consider international principals for certifying coaches."

The move to implement a centrally controlled and cohesive coaching strategy worldwide is another step in the right direction for the WTBA - which will become World Bowling in 2014 - as it continues its plans to launch a campaign for inclusion on the 2024 Olympic programme, officials claim.

As well as changing its name, the governing body has also launched a new logo that incorporates the five Olympic colours which it hopes will emphasise and promote the organisation's Olympic ambitions.
