Second phase tickets for the 2014 FIFA World Cup sold out in just seven hours on MondayNovember 11 - Tickets in the second phase of sales for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil sold out in just seven hours after being made available on the FIFA website today.

Around 220,000 tickets were available on a first come, first served basis as the remaining available from the first batch of just over one million tickets were up for grabs for fans around the world.

Of these tickets, around 62 per cent went to Brazilians with the remaining 38 per cent being seized by international buyers, namely from the United States, Australia, England and Argentina.

"As expected, the level of interest was impressive, in fact four times greater than during the first sales window," said FIFA's marketing director Thierry Weil, who is responsible for ticketing for the World Cup.

"The high number of applicants led to some waiting time but overall the system worked well.

"It was great to see that both internationals and Brazilians were aiming to grab the remaining tickets from the first batch of tickets made available.

"This clearly shows the huge appeal of attending the FIFA World Cup live in Brazil."

FIFA's website saw over 3.6 million page views on Monday with tickets going on sale at 12.00 CET.

Due to this huge demand applicants had to wait on average 45 minutes in a waiting room before making their way to the tickets application page.

Tickets for the most popular games were not on sale in this sale phase, including the June 12 opener in Sao Paulo, the July 13 final at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, the two semifinals and all of Brazil's group-stage matches.

Further tickets for all 64 matches are due go on sale on December 8 once the final match schedule for the group stage matches is known.
