Ktila, who added to his two gold medals from London 2012 with three world titles at last year's World Championships in Lyon, once again showed his prowess in Dubai by claiming wins in the T34 200 metre and 800m events.

The 28-year-old took almost a second off his own world record by clocking 26.69ses in the 200m race while T33 athlete, Kuwait;s Ahmed Almutairi also set a world mark of 30:34 in the same event to shave 0.05sec of his own record.

Ktila was in even more impressive form in the 800m event as he smashed Australian Rheed McCracken's two-year-old world record by more than a second, clocking 1min 42:33sec.

Britain's Maria Lyle was also in world record breaking form, as she set a time of 31.01 in the T35 200m class, taking over a second off the previous mark set by China's Ping Liu.

There were also doubles on the track for Switzerland's Marcel Hug in the men's T54 800m and 1500m races and Dutchman Kenny van Weeghel who took the T54 100m and 200m sprint crowns.

Uzbekistan's Fakhriddin Khamraev took the T13 1,500m title with an Asian record time of 4:03.94 while three-times Paralympic champion Terezinha Guilhermina won the battle of Brazil as she finished ahead of teammates Jhulia Santos and Jerusa Santos in the women's T11 100m.

Away from the track, records also fell as Germany's Claudia Nicoleitzi broke her own world mark in the T36 long jump adding 10 centimetres with a jump of 4.09 metres, while Salem Alkaabi thrilled the home crowd with a world record throw of 11.98m in the F31 club event.

Lithuania's Billius Mindaugas took the men's F37 shot put title with a European record of 15.50m; India's Vikas Dagar set an Asian record of 16.22m in the men's F43 shot put while an Americas record of 28.26m helped Brazilian Shirlene Coelho claim the women's F37 discus crown.

Action at the first IPC Athletics Grand Prix of the season continues through until Tuesday (February 25).
