April 15 - Slovenia President Drago Martinjak honoured Slovenian athletes after their efforts in Sochi ©PeakSlovenian athletes were honoured by the country's President Drago Martinjak at a special ceremony in Ljubljana after picking up eight medals, including two golds at Sochi 2014. 


The event had been arranged by Chinese sports equipment firm Peak.

Among the athletes to wear Peak uniforms at Sochi 2014 was Alpine skier Tina Maze, who joined rower Iztok Čop as Slovenia's most successful Olympian after winning two gold medals to add to her double silver from Vancouver 2010. 

Chinese firm Peak were the official uniform and equipment provider for the Slovenian team and Maze's success represented the first time an athlete wearing their apparel topped a Winter Olympic podium.

Slovenia had their most successful Winter Games to date in Sochi with Maze being joined on the podium by Žan Košir, who a silver and a bronze in snowboarding, Nordic skiers Vesna Fabjan and Teja Gregorin, who both claimed bronze, while ski jumper Peter Prevc secured silver and bronze medals.

At London 2012, Olympic judo champion Urska Zolnir marked the beginning of cooperation between Slovenia and Peak when she accepted her gold medal while wearing a Peak uniform.

Drago Martinjak, head of distribution for Peak in Slovenia, was on hand to award athletes on behalf of the firm's chairman Xu Jingnan for helping to promote Peak during the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.

"The sight of Slovenian athletes on the highest Olympics podium wearing Peak uniforms is the best evidence of the professional equipment of Peak," said Xu in a letter congratulating the athletes.

"The fighting spirit and courage that athletes showed in the Games also inspires Peak to move forward unceasingly to internationalisation."
