IPC Shooting has decided not to sanction a World Cup shooting event in Bangkok due to the nation's political unrest ©Getty ImagesAn International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Shooting World Cup scheduled to take place in Thailand will not be sanctioned, IPC Shooting has revealed.

The event, which was unconfirmed on the 2014 shooting calendar, was set to take place between August 20 and 27 in Bangkok, however, IPC Shooting today decided the competition will not go ahead following "ongoing uncertainty around the current situation in the country".

IPC Shooting said it "would not be in the interests of athletes and teams to endorse the event" following the political turmoil that has engulfed the nation, reducing the number of IPC Shooting World Cups to four for the 2014 season.

The news will come as another blow to Thailand after a number of other sporting events were relocated or cancelled due to the country's current situation.

The International Volleyball Federation World Tour event in Phuket was cancelled by organisers in early May, whilst the first leg of the new International Tennis Premier League was moved from Bangkok to Manila.

Earlier this year, snooker's Players Championship Grand Finals was also moved out of Thailand due to political unrest, and the season-ending tournament was instead held in Preston, England.

There has been increasing tension over the past two weeks in Thailand, leading to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra being ordered to step down after being found guilty of abuse of power by the courts.

On Thursday (May 22), the military announced they were taking control of the Government and suspending the constitution, with the Cabinet ordered to report to the military, television broadcasting suspended and political gatherings banned.

The shooting calendar for future seasons is now being kept under review by IPC Shooting to determine the location of World Cup events in the coming years.

The next 2014 World Cup event will take place from June 1 to 7 in Fort Benning, United States and will be the last before the 2014 IPC Shooting World Championships in Suhl, Germany, which gathers around 250 athletes from 45 countries.
