The University of Guilan in Iran and the Democritus University of Thrace in Greece have signed a collaborative agreement ©FILAUniversities in Iran and Greece have signed an agreement to collaborate coursework, seminars and research in the sport of wrestling, it was announced today.

TheInternational Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA) Scientific Commission oversaw the signing between the University of Guilan in Iran and the Democritus University of Thrace in Greece.

Following the Greco-Roman World Cup in Tehran, members of the Scientific Commission flew to the Iranian city of Rasht to take part in discussions which are hoped to create a project to study the development of wrestling education programmes for the next generation of wrestlers.

FILA Scientific Commissioners Ioannis Barbas and Bahman Mirzaei initiated the agreements bringing with them departments with a strong history of studying and researching the sport of wrestling.

While the agreement is not limited to the study of wrestling, the duo's influence and passion for wrestling was the driving force behind the agreement.

The Scientific Commission had previously stated its desire to work for more cooperation between international universities in the study of wrestling with this new agreement hoped to become a model for future partnerships.

The agreement was accepted by University of Guilan Chancellor, Ahmad Razi and department head Hamid Mohebbi having previously been signed by officials in Greece.
