It is hoped the agreement will strengthen awareness of Paralympic sport in Sweden ©Getty ImagesAwareness around Paralympic sport in Sweden will be boosted by the signing of what has been described as a "long-term agreement", chiefs in the country hope.

Swedish Organisation for the Disabled (SHIF) and the Swedish Paralympic Committee (SPK) have signed the deal with sponsoring consultant Generate Partnerships.

They are looking to implement a strategy to create "better conditions" in Sweden as the build-up to Rio 2016 gathers pace.

"The Paralympic rights are very strong and grow in value on a global scale at a furious pace, and this is also true in Sweden," said Thomas Brandt, marketing chief at SHIF and SPK.

"The Paralympics changes the outside world view of what is possible."

Speaking of the potential for Swedish Paralympic sport in the future, he added: "The knowledge and curiosity for Paralympic sports are increasing steadily. Not least because of the huge media exposure.

"It opens, of course, for an even greater interest in both the public and the economy."

Generate chief executive Claes Linstrom said it is "very inspiring and exciting to work with disability sport and the Paralympic Games".

He added: "Many athletes have Rio 2016 as a career highlight and we'll do our best to develop the commercial prospects at home."

Sweden won four gold medals at the London 2012 Paralympics, in table tennis, shooting, swimming and wheelchair tennis.

The country also won four silver and four bronze.
