Nicol David has topped the Women's Squash Association's world rankings since August 2006Malaysian squash legend Nicol David has made history by retaining the world number one spot for the 100th consecutive month.

The 31-year-old first reached the summit of the Women's Squash Association (WSA) rankings in January 2006 and, despite slipping to number two in the world three months later, the Malaysian reclaimed pole position in August of that year and has not relinquished it since.

David has won 77 WSA World Tour titles, including a record-breaking seven World Championships, in becoming the first woman or man to hold the number one ranking for more than eight years unopposed.

"To be the number one in the world for 100 consecutive months is simply remarkable, in particular taking into consideration that she is only 31 years young," said WSA chief executive Tommy Berden.

"Nicol's achievements are unique within the global sporting community and it's great for the sport to have an ambassador like her."
