Qatar's Mohamed Yousef Al Mana has been re-elected President of the Asian Weightlifting Federation ©IWFQatar's Mohammed Yousef Al-Mana has been re-elected unopposed as President of the Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) as it was announced that the organisation's headquarters are to move from Tehran to Doha.


It will be his second term as head of the AWF following his election in Tashkent in 2011. 

Al-Mana was elected by acclamation at the AWF's Electoral Congress in Doha which took place in conjunction with the Asian Youth and Junior Championships currently being held in the Qatari capital.

Earlier, the Executive Board of the AWF had approved a proposal to move the organisation's offices from Iran to Doha.

The expenses of the AWF headquarters and staff will be covered by the Qatar weightlifting Federation, it was announced.

Iraq's Mohammed Jaloud will replace Ali Moradi as AWF general secretary after he was elected by acclamation, while Thailand's Boosaba Yodbangtoey was elected first vice-president.

Uzbekistan's Makhmudov Shakhrillo, China's Qian Guangjian, Saudi Arabia's Al Jishi Salman, South Korea's Choi Sung-Yong, Yemen's Abdullah Jarmal and Kazakhstan's Kairat Turlykhanov were elected vice-presidents.

Bangladesh's Ahmad Mohyuddin, United Arab Emirates' Alhammadi Faisal, Kuwait's Altami Huzam, India's Baishya Birendra Prasad, Japan's Reiko Kato Chinen, Pakistan's Hafiz Imran Butt, Indonesia's Sony Kasiran, Jordan's Mheisen Ibrahim, Myanmar's Mynt Swe and Iran's Reza Zadeh Hossein were voted onto the ruling AWF Executive Board.

The elections were observed by Tamas Ajan, President of the IWF, who praised Qatar's development.  

"In the past 17 years, the country completely changed and its approach to sport became global," he said.

"Qatar organises World Cups, championships, and is investing in the development of sport.

"Asia is a united continent and I wish to thank the kind hospitality of the Qatar Weightlifting Federation, and Qatar Olympic Committee during this event."
