In a thrilling race, Migunov passed Canada's Francois Hamelin on the last lap to steal a late win in a time of 41.066sec, while South Korea's Kwak Yoon-Gy came through to take third.

The result gave the Russian an unassailable lead at the top of the standings on 46,078 points with just one World Cup event remaining, which is due to take place next Friday (February 13) until the following Sunday (Febuary 15) in Erzurum, Turkey.

On what as a packed day of action for the large crowd in attendance, China's Kexin Fan also sealed the 500m women's overall crown by virtue of a third-place finish in Dresden.

Italy's Arianna Fontana, who has struggled for form this season, emerged victorious in the race by posting a time of 43.551, which proved enough to beat recently-crowned European champion Elise Christie of Great Britain.

Elsewhere, South Korea maintained their dominance in the women's 1,500m as they earned their second consecutive one-two of the weekend.

Suk Hee Shim edged compatriot Alang Kim as she raced around the track in 2:28.927, while China's Jiaying Tao was third.

The result had no effect on the top of the overall classification, with South Korea's Minjeong Choi still in pole position.

In the men's 1,500m, Russian Semion Elistratov continued his excellent run of form by winning his second straight race in the German city as he finished ahead of South Korea's Seungsoo Han, and Canadian Charles Hamelin rounded off the podium by taking third.

Da Woon Sin of South Korea had already clinched the 1,500m World Cup title last weekend and he did not feature this time around, with his work seemingly already done.

The final day of the event in Dresden concluded with the women's 3,000m relay, which gave Canada their first win of the season, as they pipped Italy to gold, while France took bronze.

The men's 5,000m relay went with the form books as the imperious Dutch team beat nearest challengers Hungary by a mere 0.07 seconds, and China were third, although they were some way off the pace.
