It has been reported that the Azerbaijani driver of the vehicle was also killed.

The incident took place on Heydar Aliyev Prospekti and it was confirmed that three other members of the company required immediate hospital treatment.

The person, who was working as one of the organisation's subcontractors, has not yet been named.

"It is with great sadness that FiveCurrents confirms that a member of its production team died following a traffic incident on  Baku’s Heydar Aliyev Prospekti on 23 June," the statement read.
"The team member was a British citizen who worked for a company contracted by FiveCurrents, the Baku 2015 Ceremonies  production company.  
"Three other team members also required immediate hospital treatment after the incident and will be repatriated so they  can receive further medical attention. 
"We are thankful to the Baku 2015 Organising Committee, the Azerbaijan Ministry of Health and the British Embassy in Baku  who were of great assistance in delivering medical care and consular services for all involved."

The European Olympic Committees (EOC) added their condolences.

“The EOC is deeply saddened by this tragic incident," they said in a statement.

"The entire European Olympic family is united in offering our most heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of those involved.

"Now is the time to show solidarity in these difficult circumstances.”

Baku 2015 chief operating officer Simon Clegg said at this morning's press briefing that they were aware of the incident, which had been reported in the Azerbaijani media.

The incident follows the crash involving three Austrian swimmers who were hit by a bus while walking through the athlete's village, which left 15-year-old Vanessa Sahinovic with severe injuries.

Austria then went on to win an unexpected and emotional silver medal in the synchronised swimming event, which they dedicated to Sahinovich, which came after Austrian coaches admitted they had considered withdrawing from the Games.
