The Boccia International Sports Federation (BISFed) has announced the allocated slots for the 2016 World Individual Championships are due to be announced on Saturday (January 9).

All Federations received invitations last month to the Championships, scheduled to be held in Beijing from March 19 to 26.

They had until midnight on December 20 to enter, with the Federations now awaiting confirmation who have been allocated places at the event.

A total of 160 athletes with be granted places at the Championships, with a maximum number of three athletes in a class per country.

Teams will be allowed a maximum team size of 12, according to the BISFed competition system criteria, with one assistant per athlete, plus a team manager, a member of medical staff and one coach per class.

Each individual winner at the World Individual Championships will earn automatic qualification for the Paralympic Games.

The competition will be held in the same venue in the Chinese capital that successfully staged the 2014 Boccia World Championships.

The event will provide competitors with the last opportunity to earn vital Paralympic qualification points for Rio 2016.

Two other significant events on next year's boccia calendar are the World Open events in Montreal and Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal.

The former is due to run from April 26 to May 2, while the latter is scheduled for June 13 to June 19.

Competition at the Paralympic Games is set to be made up of seven events and due to be held at the Carioca Arena 2 in the Olympic Park.
