South Korea's Minjeong Choi delighted the home crowd by successfully defending her overall International Skating Union (ISU) World Short Track Speed Skating Championships crown in Seoul.

After winning the title in Moscow last year - which was one of four gold medals she collected in the Russian capital - Choi spearheaded her success by winning the 1000 metres crown at the Taereung International Skating Rink today.

The 17-year-old was also sixth in the 3,000m to end with an overall points tally of 66, edging Canadian Marianne St-Gelais into silver with her points score of 63.

St-Gelais won gold in the 1500m yesterday and then silver in the 500m, but was fifth in both disciplines today which did not prove enough to hang onto the overall lead.

Britain's Elise Christie, who ended the Championships with four medals, finished third overall with 47 points.

Choi's 1000m success came in a time of 1 min 31.933 sec as she beat Christie into the silver medal.

Kasandra Bradette of Canada did enough to come home for bronze.

In the 3,000m, Dutch skater Suzanne Schulting claimed gold ahead of China's silver medallist Guo Yihan and Christie who grabbed bronze.

The British skater, also a bronze medallist over 1500m yesterday, now has eight World Championship medals in total but no golds.

In the men's competition, overall gold went to China's Han Tianyu who backed up his opening day victory in the 1500m with 3000m glory today.

The 19-year-old double Olympic medallist tallied 68 points to win his first individual world crown ahead of Canada's Charles Hamelin, today's winner over 1000m who finished on 48.

Hungary took bronze as overnight leader Liu Shaolin Sandor, the 500m champion, ended on 41 points.

Han's 3000m win saw him pip South Korean Park Se-yeong into silver with Hamelin third.

The Canadian, a triple Olympic champion, took the 1000m title ahead of fellow countryman Samuel Girard and China's Wu Dajing.

Two relays were also held on the final day in Seoul, with South Korea delighting their fans by winning the women's 3000m event ahead of Canada and Russia, a success which sealed another gold for Choi.

In the men's 5000m race, China, featuring Han, took gold with Canada second and the Koreans third.
