Fans attending this month's men's International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship in Russia are being invited to use an online guide designed to make their experience as hassle-free as possible.

The new Door2Door platform allows spectators to plan their journey to matches - which are being held in capital Moscow and Saint Petersburg - and other events.

Services such as shared rides and shared taxis are offered, while the guide also helps with navigation to car parks and real-time local traffic updates.

Other information for fans at the Championships will also be provided.

It is hoped the tool will be a valuable resource for spectators, with many expected to be visiting Russia for the first time.

According to the IIHF, the guide is "a comprehensive journey experience which is convenient, cost effective and fun".

It will also help offset admissions and reduce travel costs, it is claimed.

"This eco-friendly, easy-to-use solution will enable fans to board a hassle-free ride, allowing them to enjoy the journey and share it with friends and other fans," the IIHF said.

As the tournament progresses, the Fan Guide will feature tips on places to watch the games and information on fan zone events.

Action will get underway on Friday (May 6) with Sweden taking on Latvia and hosts Russia meeting Czech Republic at Moscow's VTB Ice Palace in Group A.

Group B will also begin at the Yubileyny Sports Palace in Saint Petersburg, with a heavyweight showdown between United States and Canada preceding a clash between Finland and Belarus.

The tournament will conclude with the final on May 22, in Moscow.
