The United States’ Sarah Rudder took her 2016 Invictus Games medal tally to seven today after winning two golds and three silvers in front of a home crowd in Orlando.

Rudder, who was eventually left without a leg following the 9-11 terrorist attacks, already had top honours to her name in women’s lightweight powerlifting and one-minute indoor rowing.

Today saw her add golds in the 100 metres dash IT1/IT2 and discus IF1, winning the former with a time of 15.56sec and the latter with a throw of 21.15m.

France’s Marion Blot came second in the 100m dash in 15.80, followed by Italy’s Monica Contrafatto in 16.68.

Estonia’s Juane Engel was the discus runner-up with a throw of 18.71m, while American Lauren Montoya was third after registering 17.35m.

Rudder also took home silver medals in the four-minute indoor rowing, shot-put IF1 and 200m IT1.

A score of 981 in the IR5 women 4min event placed her between the winner Mireille Poulin of Canada and third-placed Blot, who posted 998 and 957 respectively.

In the shot-put, Rudder finished runner-up with a throw of 7.71m as Italy’s Pellegrina Caputo triumphed with 7.80m and Engel came third with 7.70m.

Blot clocked a time of 33.75 in the 200m to top the podium ahead of Rudder, who was second in 36.40, and Montoya, who was third in 41.05.

"It shows that just because I'm an amputee doesn't mean I can't go out and put my heart and soul on the track or any event that I do," said Rudder, who was on the verge of a key promotion in the US Marine Corps when she lost her leg.

Rudder was able to help others to safety after the 9-11 attack on the Pentagon, but when she returned two days later to help remove remains of victims, her left ankle got trapped in a concrete barrier and was crushed.

Despite having five reconstructive surgeries, the injury eventually led to her left leg being amputated two years ago.

Elsewhere today at the Invictus Games, the US claimed gold in the sitting volleyball competition after beating Great Britain 25-21, 25-27, 15-8 in a reverse of the 2014 final.

Georgia recovered from a 15-25, 25-23, 8-15 semi-final loss against Britain to defeat The Netherlands 25-19, 25-16 in the bronze medal match.

The Dutch had earlier suffered a 10-25, 17-25 defeat at the hands of the US in the last four.
