Steve Harris has been reelected as President of the Canadian Luge Association (CLA) for a further two years.

He first took the top job in 2015 and since then has focussed on building a "financially sustainable" organisation.

Harris, who was voted back in at the CLA's annual Congress in Calgary, said that he would be looking to build on the work he has already carried out in the role.

“We have made significant gains over the last 18 months despite a very difficult economy, but cannot stand still," he said.

"This is a very critical time in the history of our programme and we need to continue our pursuit of excellence both on the track and in the community."

High performance will be another aim for Harris, with the Olympic tracks in Calgary and Whistler regular hosts to top events, including dates on the International Luge Federation (FIL) World Cup calendar.

Kimberley McRae was the best performing Canadian during the 2015/16 World Cup season, finishing 10th overall in the women's standings.

Alex Gough also earned a bronze medal in the opening women's event in Igls in Austria.

"It is simple, yet challenging," said Harris.

"Success starts with having strong leadership, and a dedicated team of professionals behind the team on the track, who can deliver the resources athletes require to win.

“We have elected a talented group of dedicated professionals that are focused on sharpening our long-term strategic plan and achieving our collective goals to ensure our athletes have the support they need.”
