Prague and Tokyo have been confirmed as hosts of the next two editions of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) General Assembly in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Each city was announced here on the final day of this year's edition.

insidethegames revealed that the Czech capital had been named as host during an Executive Council meeting on Monday (November 14).

The event is expected to take place from October 30 to November 3 next year.

A specific venue is yet to be announced.

"Several cities had shown interest," said ANOC secretary general Gunilla Lindberg after today's meeting.

"We have looked at different concepts and decided to go to Prague in 2017.

"We are happy now - like the [Olympic] Games we want to have rotation of the continents."

It will mark the first time in four years that a European city has hosted the annual event since an extraordinary edition took place in Lausanne in 2013.

Bangkok in Thailand played host in 2014 before the United States capital Washington D.C. did so last year.

Prague also hosted the European Olympic Committees General Assembly in 2015 and an International Olympic Committee Session in 2003, where Vancouver were awarded the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Tokyo, meanwhile, was not mentioned during the meeting but was confirmed as host by Lindberg afterwards.

It will be easier for the Japanese capital to play host in 2018, the Swede said, than in 2020 in the same year as they are due to host the Olympics and Paralympics.

Rio de Janeiro withdrew from hosting this year's General Assembly because it was unable to organise an event catering for 1,200 delegates as it also battled through the final stages of Games preparations.

San Diego is expected to host the 2019 event at the same time as it hosts the inaugural ANOC World Beach Games.
