Italy’s Christoph Mick secured the second International Ski Federation (FIS) Parallel Snowboard World Cup victory of his career by triumphing in Bad Gastein.

Mick, whose only other World Cup victory had come in front of a home crowd in December 2015, impressed throughout the rounds of the parallel slalom event in Austria.

He saw off the challenge of Russia’s Konstantin Shipilov in the quarter-finals, before going on to defeat the home snowboarder Andreas Prommegger.

The Italian would face Switzerland’s Kaspar Fluetsch in the big final, with Mick ultimately prevailing by a narrow margin of 0.09 seconds.

Prommegger would secure a podium finish in front of a home crowd, as the Austrian ended 0.21 seconds in front of Switzerland’s Nevin Galmarini in the small final.

The result did not affect the top two in the FIS Snowboard World Cup standings, with the winners of the opening two competitions still setting the pace.

Russian Andrey Sobolev remains in front of Austria’s Benjamin Karl, but Mick and Prommegger have now risen to third and fourth place respectively.

The women’s event was won by the home favourite Daniela Ulbing, after she comfortably beat The Netherlands’ Michelle Dekker by 7.61 seconds in the big final.

A second Austrian would also appear on the podium, as Sabine Schoeffmann triumphed by a margin of 0.12 seconds in the small final.

Czech athlete Ester Ledecká remains top of the overall standings after a strong start to the season, but Ulbing’s victory has seen her strengthen her position in second.

Austria’s Ina Meschik and Schoeffmann are third and fourth.
