Japan's Yuki Kobayashi triumphed in the Asian Winter Games women's 10 kilometre cross-country skiing event at the Shirahatayama Open Stadium here today.

The 29-year-old claimed one silver and two bronze medals at the last Asian Winter Games at Almaty in 2011.

She was not to be denied in front of a home crowd after producing a fine display, despite the falling snow and wind creating challenging conditions.

Kobayashi finished in 30min 24sec to take the gold medal.

South Korea's Lee Chae-won secured the silver medal in a time of 30:49 in the middle-distance event.

Yelena Kolomina, winner of Kazakhstan's first medal of the Games yesterday, was responsible for their second too.

Following her silver medal in the sprint, Kolomina secured 10km bronze in 31:14.
