European Taekwondo Union (ETU) President Sakis Pragalos has visited Bulgaria’s capital Sofia to inspect preparations for the continental governing body’s Under-21 Championships next month.

Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation President Slavi Binev welcomed Pragalos and adjoined the tour around the facilities and "Sports Hall Sofia" venue.

They also visited the official accommodation for the Championships, the Park Hotel Moskva, which is located next to the venue.

Additionally, the trip saw Bulgarian Olympic Committee President Stefka Konstadinova, the Atlanta 1996 Olympic high jump champion and world record holder since 1987, speak extensively with Pragalos and discuss various topics regarding Olympic taekwondo.

Pragalos marked the ended of his stay by holding a meeting with Bulgarian Sports Minister Daniela Dasheva, who welcomed the Greek to her offices.

"Today, I realised the dynamic of the Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation in organising and carrying out successfully the ETU European Taekwondo Under-21 Championships," Pragalos said.

"It is very important for all MNAs (Member National Associations) to preserve a healthy relationship with the national sport authorities of their country, in order to contribute in the support and promotion of taekwondo, both economically and in terms of infrastructure.

"I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all the people who work, assist, volunteer and contribute in every way towards the realisation of an ETU event, as it has a continental impact in benefit of their country as well."

Binev visited ETU headquarters last year to sign a contract to bring the Championships to Bulgaria for the first time in its history.

He met with Pragalos and ETU secretary general Michael Fysentzidis at their offices in Athens, with ETU Council member Andrey Georgiev also in attendance at the meeting.

Competition is scheduled to take place from April 6 to 9.
