Great Britain's Laura Muir is targeting the women's one mile national record when she appears at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League meeting in London on July 9.

The 23-year-old, who won golds in the 1,500 and 3,000 metres races at the European Indoor Championships held in Belgrade, Serbia in March, already has five British records to her name.

But she has now said she wants to beat the one mile mark set by Zola Budd in 1985 at the event in London's Olympic Stadium, taking place just a month before the IAAF World Championships are staged at the same venue.

During last year's Diamond League meeting in London, Muir broke the British women's 1,500m record which Dame Kelly Holmes had held since winning Olympic gold at Athens 2004.

Budd, who controversially ran for Britain after switching allegiances from South Africa, set a time of 4min 17.57sec during a race in Switzerland.

Last year, Muir came close to breaking the record as she ran the distance in 4:19.12.

"It would be brilliant one month out from the World Championships," Muir told the BBC.

"To have another British record, and in the London Stadium again, would be fantastic.

"Fingers crossed, I will be able to do something."

At the IAAF World Championships, taking place between August 4 and 13, Muir is aiming to complete a 1,500m and 5,000m double.

After setting a new national women's 1,500m record of 3:57.51 in London, she went on to lower the time a month later at the Paris Diamond League meeting by a further 2.29sec.

This time also made her the world leader for the year.

Muir's other national records have all been set indoors, setting the marks for the 1,000m, 1,500m, 3,000m and 5,000m.
