Nearly 250 competitors from 41 countries will be in action at the World Archery Para Championships, which begin tomorrow in Chinese capital Beijing.

Fourteen gold medals will be available at the China Administration for Sports for Persons with Disabilities Centre, a venue at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.

Competitions using the recurve and compound bow will both see action for individual men and women as well as male, female and mixed team events.

The W1 class will see individual men and women compete as well as men's and mixed teams.

All six individual Paralympic champions from Rio 2016 will look to add world gold in Beijing, in the first major competition of the Tokyo 2020 cycle.

Recurve gold medallist Rahimi Gholamreza of Iran will hope to improve on a third place finish at the 2015 World Championships in Donaueschingen in Germany.

In the women's recurve, two-time and reigning Paralympic champion Zahra Nemati, another Iranian, is set to collide with China's home hope Wu Chunyan, the defending world champion.

Wu's only defeat in her career was against Nemati in the Rio 2016 final.

American Andre Shelby is the men's compound Paralympic champion while China will be hoping their home archer Zhou Jiamin can add to her women's compound title from Brazil.

In the W1 recurve Britain's John Walker appears to be the man to beat with his team-mate Jessica Stretton looking to add the global title to Rio gold in the women's W1 compound.

Stretton, who is only 17, broke four world records in July at the British Junior Championships.

Qualification and the opening rounds of competition will take place tomorrow.

The Championships will run until September 17.
