Mohamed Elshorbagy has overtaken fellow-Egyptian Ali Farag to take the lead in the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Men's World Series standings as a result of his win at the Qatar Classic last Friday (November 3).

The top eight players in both men's and women's World Series standings are due to take part in the World Series Finals next June.

All eight World Series tournaments in the coming season give players a chance to battle for points in the World Series standings.

Farag's win at the first World Series - the US Open - saw him take an early lead, but his defeat in the quarter-final by Elshorbagy in Doha, coupled with the latter's win over Tarek Momen in the final, saw him drop to second in the standings, 40 points below Elshorbagy, who sits on 165 points.

Momen was initially ranked outside the top eight but has moved up to third, so that all the top three are Egyptians.

He defeated Britain's Nick Matthew in the quarter-finals and the latter is now fourth, level on points with Simon Rösner, the German number one, who reached his first World Series semi-final in Doha.

The final three spots in the men's top eight went to former world number three Egypt's Omar Mosaad, Peruvian world number 14 Diego Elias and Egypt's world number eight Fares Dessouky.

The women's standings remain unchanged, with Faraq's wife, Nour El Tayeb, leading the way ahead of World Championships runner-up Raneem El Welily, another Egyptian.

New Zealand's Joelle King and England's defending PSA World Series Finals champion Laura Massaro make up the rest of the top four.

The next PSA World Series event is due to be the Hong Kong Open.

It is scheduled to take place between November 14 and 19 at the Hong Kong Squash Centre and the Hong Kong Park Sports Centre.
