The 22-year-old, a double X Games gold medallist this year, stormed to the top of the standings after his first run in Austria.

He was awarded a score of 88.00 points having managed to land a series of impressive tricks on the run.

Braaten sealed his first gold medal on the World Cup circuit by improving on the second run, where he achieved a score of 91.40 points.

"We saw so many good runs in the qualifications and the level was really high," Braaten said.

"I’m stoked to land both my runs and I’m looking forward to the next one."

Canada's Evan McEachran, winner of his qualification heat, ended as the runner-up in the competition.

He finished with a total of 86.20 points, with the United States’ Colby Stevenson rounded off the podium places on 81.80.

Sweden’s Jennie-Lee Burmansson emerged as the winner of the women’s event, the 15-year-old skier triumphing with a score of 80.00 points.

The result added to her third place finish as Cardrona in New Zealand during August.

Britain’s Katie Summerhayes earned her first World Cup podium finish in four years, finishing as the runner-up on a score of 77.00 points.

Caroline Claire secured the bronze medal, the American skier scoring 75.20 points.
