The Chinese Embassy in the Ivory Coast have held a reception to congratulate athletes who participated in the World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final in Abidjan.

Tang Weibin, the Chinese Ambassador, welcomed both nations teams to the Embassy following the completion of the competition.

Chinese National Taekwondo Association President Guan Jian Min led his team to the event, along with the team coaches and squad.

More than 100 people attended the reception, including Chinese businesses based in the Ivory Coast.

Guo Yunfei secured China’s only individual gold medal of the Grand Prix, beating South Korea’s Oh Hye-ri in the women’s under-67kg final.

Her team-mate Zheng Shuyin secured a bronze medal in the women’s over-67kg competition.

The Chinese team were able to celebrate success in the World Team Championships which followed the Grand Prix.

They won both the mixed and women’s team titles at the event.

Tang congratulated the Chinese team on their "outstanding" results, adding the competitions had enabled athletes from the country to interact and share experiences with those from the Ivory Coast.

Ivory Coast's Cheick Sallah Cissé had delighted the home crowd by winning the men’s under 80kg gold at the Grand Prix.

The Ivory Coast’s successful hosting of both events had helped World Taekwondo Africa be named Best Continental Union of the Year at the governing body’s annual awards.
