Back-to-back races in Germany will halt the Snowboard Cross World Cup season before the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.

Qualification will begin tomorrow at Feldberg, with men’s and women’s races then taking place over the next two days.

The battle for the women’s World Cup is expected to be the focus of proceedings, with Italy’s Michela Moioli currently heading the standings.

Moioli has a total of 4,630 points from the seven World Cup events so far, but lies just 30 points clear of second place Chloe Trespeuch of France, a Sochi 2014 bronze medallist.

France’s Nelly Moenne Loccoz and Charlotte Bankes will hope to stage a late charge towards the title, with the pair boasting 3,920 and 3,700 points respectively.

Pierre Vaultier heads the men’s standings as he builds towards defending his Olympic title at Pyeongchang 2018.

The Frenchman has a total of 4,320 points and appears set to celebrate earning the overall World Cup crown.

The world champion will be seeking a third straight win on the 700 metre course, having won in 2016 and 2017.

His nearest rival Alex Pullin of Australia currently has a total of 3,796 points, which would require him to have a stunning two days of action if he is to overhaul Vaultier.

Snowboarders will quickly shift their attentions to the Winter Olympics after the World Cup, with the Opening Ceremony of Pyeongchang 2018 taking place on February 9.
