Russia's Ekaterina Ilyukhina has confirmed her retirement from competitive snowboarding after 104 parallel World Cup races on tour.

The 30-year-old has called time on her career after placing 32nd in the first of two women's parallel giant slalom events in Bansko late last month.

The events held in the Bulgarian town were the last before the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games, which are scheduled to begin on Friday (February 9).

"I could not perform as I wanted in the final pre-Olympic World Cup due to health reasons," Ilyukhina said.

"I never thought to end my career so early but those circumstances decided everything for me.

"It might not be good for Russian sports but I'm okay with it."

Ilyukhina's career was headlined by a silver medal-winning performance in parallel giant slalom at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.

Later that same year, she celebrated what proved to be her one and only World Cup podium finish after finishing third in a parallel slalom event in Limone Piemonte in Italy.

Ilyukhina also represented her country at seven World Championships and at a home Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014.

Her performance at Sochi 2014 did not reach the same heights as that at Vancouver 2010, as she finished 29th in the parallel slalom and 12th in the parallel giant slalom.

Russia's team for Pyeongchang 2018 will not compete under its own flag and will be known as "Olympic Athletes from Russia".

This was announced by the International Olympic Committee in December after a Commission chaired by former Swiss Confederation President Samuel Schmid confirmed a "systemic manipulation" of anti-doping results at events including Sochi 2014.
