Government representatives from each of the three South American countries met in the Uruguayan capital Montevideo to discuss the direction of their bid.

As reported by Xinhua, in a statement after the meeting, Uruguayan President Tabaré Vázquez said the countries are planning to promote their bid at the upcoming 2018 World Cup in June and July.

"The World Cup is coming and I think the time is right to use all of our combined force to present [our bid] in front of a world audience," he said.

"[This year's World Cup] will be a great chance to position and consolidate our bid because the world will be focused on football and we can have a privileged space of attention."

Vázquez was joined at the meeting by Argentine Football Association President Claudio Tapia, Argentina's sports secretary Fernando Marin and Paraguay's Tourism Minister Marcela Bacigalupo.

The trio are joining forces to bid for the 2030 World Cup as a celebration of the tournament's centenary, with the idea being that the flagship competition will be brought back home.

The first FIFA World Cup first took place in Uruguay in 1930 with the hosts emerging triumphant.

Argentina and Uruguay, both two-time World Cup winning countries and one-time hosts, announced their plans to submit a bid for the 2030 tournament early last year before adding Paraguay, who have never won or hosted a World Cup, to the bid process in September.

Officials say that Uruguay and Paraguay will be allocated one or two stadiums each whilst Argentina could provide up to six of the venues.

England have also expressed an interest in bidding for the 2030 tournament whilst a joint bid from Asia is also expected.
