Olympic champion Anna Gasser claimed the overall women's big air title despite not competing at the International Ski Federation Snowboard World Cup event in Québec after Switzerland's Carla Somaini fell in qualification.

The Austrian star, who won the first big air gold medal at last month's Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, decided to end her season prior to the final leg of the series.

Gasser was at risk of losing her grip on the crystal globe for the discipline by choosing to skip the competition in the Canadian city.

Somaini was the only athlete who could mathematically catch the Austrian at the top of the standings but her chances were dashed after she suffered a fall in qualifying.

The Swiss failed to progress to tomorrow's final, handing Gasser the overall big air crown.

American Julia Marino topped the qualification leaderboard with a total score of 77.50, 3.50 points ahead of Lia-Maria Boesch of Switzerland.

Canadian Laurie Blouin, the reigning slopestyle world champion, was third on 72.50 points.

Switzerland's Jonas Boesiger finished at the summit of the men's qualification standings after his effort yielded a score of 94.25 points.

Canadian Antoine Truchon was second on 90.00 points as he narrowly beat compatriot and Olympic slopestyle silver medallist Max Parrot's total of 88.00.

Finals in both the men's and women's events are scheduled to be held tomorrow, bringing the Snowboard World Cup season to a close.
