Montenegro beat Romania today to secure their place in the International Swimming Federation (FINA) Men’s Water Polo World League Super Final, denying Olympic champions Serbia qualification from the European preliminaries.

The Montenegrins triumphed 12-4 on their visit to Izvorani as they finished in first place, the sole qualification spot, in Group A.

It prevented defending champions Serbia, the World League's dominant force for the last decade, from qualifying.

Today’s Group B action saw world champions Croatia beat Germany 14-8 in front of a home crowd in Slavonski Brod.

World champions Croatia have thus advanced to the Super Final with four wins and 12 points.

In Group C, Spain defeated Hungary 15-13 after a penalty shoot-out in Pamplona.

It followed a 10-10 draw in regulation time at the CD Amaya.

Despite their loss, world silver medallists Hungary still finished top of Group C with nine points.

Montenegro, Croatia and Hungary have joined hosts Russia in qualifying for the World League Super Final, scheduled to be held in a yet-be-confirmed city from June 18 to 23.

The United States, Australia, Japan and Kazakhstan are the four teams that qualified for the Super Final following the FINA Water Polo Inter-Continental Cup in Auckland in New Zealand last week.
