Great Britain's Gemma Collis-McCann claimed her first-ever gold medal at an International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) Wheelchair Fencing World Cup after winning the women’s épée A Division event in Montreal.

The 25-year-old claimed a 15-13 win over Hungary’s Zsuzsanna Krajnyák, an 11-time Paralympic medallist, in the final at the Canadian city's Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard.

France’s Sabrina Poignet and Hungary’s Amarilla Veres were the bronze medallists.

The women’s épée B Division was won by Thailand’s Saysunee Jana, who beat Hungary’s Gyöngyi Dani 15-8 in the final.

Rounding out the podium were France’s Circée Peloux and Malaysia’s Yi Ying Lew.

France dominated the men’s foil events with Damien Tokatlian and Maxime Valet tasting victory in the A and B Divisions respectively.

Tokatlian defeated Japan’s Shintaro Kano 15-6 in the A final, while Valet overcame South Korea’s Kim Gi Hong 15-5 in the B final.

The A Division bronze medallists were Poland’s Michal Nalewajek and South Korea’s Sim Jae Hoon.

Completing the B Division podium were Brazil’s Jovane Guissone and Japan’s Michinobu Fujita.

Action at the IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Cup is due to continue tomorrow with the men’s épée and women’s foil events.
