Marit Bouwmeester of The Netherlands defended her radial women's title on the last day of action at the European Laser Championships in the French port city of La Rochelle.

After a disappointing display earlier in the week, the Rio 2016 gold medallist has been ahead of the pack for the vast majority of the final rounds and eventually finished on a points total of 26.

This was more than enough to see off competition from compatriot Maxime Jonker, who was 36 points behind on 62.

Belgium's Emma Plasschaert rounded off the podium with a total of 74.

In the radial men's competition, Slovenia's Nik Pletikos secured the title after a week which has seen him top the rankings almost since the first race.

The 27-year-old could even afford to discard his two results from today as he finished with a points total of 29.

Italy's Federico Tocchi finished second on 37 with last year's champion Marcin Rudawski of Poland clinching third after winning the final two races of the competition.

Cyprus' Pavlos Kontide claimed the laser standard title by the narrowest of margins.

He finished on 46 points, just one clear of Great Britain's Michael Beckett in the silver medal position.

Sweden's Jesper Stalheim claimed bronze thanks to a total of 60.
