China claimed home gold at the Women's World Super 6 sitting volleyball tournament in Chengdu.

The Paralympic silver medallists from Rio 2016 got the better of defending champions Russia in a five-set final at the second edition of the event.

In an extremely close contest the Chinese triumphed 29-27, 25-12, 27-29, 18-25, 15-13.

Six of the world's best women's sitting volleyball nations were competing at the event.

Ukraine won the bronze medal after a straight sets win over Japan, 25-13, 25-12, 25-18.

Indonesia won the fifth-place play-off against Kazakhstan thanks to a 25-23, 25-17, 26-24 win.

Elina Bezprozvanna of Ukraine was selected as the tournament's most valuable player, with Paralympic champions United States not at the event.

The Chinese win comes after Iran won the men's event, also on home soil in Tabriz, last month.

The Paralympic champions defeated Russia 25-21, 25-23, 28-26 in the final to seal the gold medal.
