Delegates from the BWF's 189 member associations will gather in the Thai capital for meetings on May 19, the eve of the Thomas and Uber Cups, which will see the Men's and Women's World Team Championships up for grabs.

There are several items on the agenda which could bring significant change to the sport.

One of these will be the discussion of changing the scoring system from the current format of three games, where it is first to 21, to five games where it would be first to 11.

Also up for discussion is the possible reduction of on-court coaching and the introduction of time-outs for players.

Additionally, the BWF are looking at a service-law change with a fixed height for serves, which they say will "improve the quality and consistency of service judging".

BWF President Poul-Erik Høyer said: "This will be a very significant meeting with important matters to be decided.

"The overall aim of these proposals is to make badminton more exciting by creating more peaks in matches.

"We want to increase the entertainment value for fans, while also shortening the length of matches.

"Time-outs will be a new feature and will mean players will have to rely on their own instincts and ideas more, rather than getting as much coaching as they do now."

Delegates will also gather with the 32 teams competing at the Thomas and Uber Cups for a welcome dinner, where Cuba's Miguel Diaz Fernandez, Germany's Günter Klützke and Thailand's Nahathai Somprachum will be presented with BWF Distinguished Service Awards.
