France's Elodie Clouvel topped the women's A qualification standings on the first day of the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) World Cup in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

The Rio 2016 silver medallist impressed from the start and came top of the pile in the fencing event, collecting 264 points thanks to 23 wins.

Her efforts in the swimming were not quite as impressive as she finished fourth in a time of 2min 13.88sec, giving her 283 points.

Her combined performance was also disappointing as she finished 25th on 490 points with a time of 13:30.69

It was, however, enough to make sure she was top of the standings at the end of the first day with a total of 1037 points.

Natalya Coyle of Ireland finished second, seven points whilst Silkina Volha from Belarus rounded off the top three, 11 points behind Coyle on 1,019.
