Carlotta Gilli and Efrem Morelli both won their A-finals on a gold medal-laden closing day for hosts Italy at the World Para Swimming World Series leg in Lignano Sabbiadoro.

Gilli, the 2017 world gold medallist, won the women's 100 metres butterfly event in a format where swimmers across different classifications were ranked by points rather than times.

The S13 swimmer managed a total of 979 points after clocking a time of 1 min 2.22sec at the venue located in a picturesque sports village by the seaside.

The United States’ Rebecca Meyers, an S12 swimmer, finished second with 955 points, while compatriot Elizabeth Smith, an S9 swimmer, came third with 901.

Italy’s second A-final victory came courtesy of Morelli, the 2017 world gold medallist, in the men’s 150m individual medley event.

Morelli scored 765 points with a time of 2:45.97.

Fellow SM4 swimmers Miguel Luque of Spain and Andreas Ernhofer of Austria finished second and third respectively.

Luque earned 727 points, while Ernhofer amassed 264.

Other A-final winners today were the US’s Evan Austin in the men’s 50m butterfly, Canada’s Tess Routliffe in the women’s 50m butterfly and Belarus’ Ihar Boki in the men’s 100m butterfly.

Austin, an S7 swimmer, prevailed with 1,004 points and a time of 30.12, while Routliffe, also an S7 swimmer, triumphed with 811 points and a time of 38.65.

Eleven-time Paralympic champion Boki, an S13 swimmer, secured victory with 993 points and a time of 53.91.

The next leg of the World Para Swimming World Series is scheduled to take place in English city Sheffield from May 31 to June 3.
