Russian and Bulgarian boxers dominated semi-finals at the European Women's Boxing Championships at the Asics Arena in Bulgarian capital Sofia.

The Russian team were represented in nine of the 10 divisions as competition reached the semi-final stage, with seven of their fighters making it through to the final.

Ekaterina Paltcheva was first to book her place in a gold medal bout as she won her 48 kilogram light flyweight contest against Ukraine’s Hanna Okhota, prevailing on a split decision 4-1 verdict.

She is now set to face the challenge of Sevda Yuliyanova Asenova, who was one of four Bulgarian boxers to reach finals.

Asenova edged Romania’s Steluta Duta 3-2 in their semi-final clash.

Gabriela Rostisova Dimitrova was unable to replicate her team-mates feat, as the Bulgarian lost 4-1 to Russia’s Svetlana Soluianova in the 51kg flyweight division.

Turkey’s Busenaz Çakıroğlu won the second semi-final unanimously, beating Belarus’ Yana Burym 5-0 on points.

Another Russian against Bulgaria clash came in the 60kg lightweight competition, where Anastasiia Beliakova claimed a convincing 5-0 win over Denitsa Yordanova Eliseeva.

The Russian’s reward is a gold medal bout against Finland’s Mira Potkonen after the Olympic bronze medallist won 4-1 against Ireland’s Kellie Harrington.

There was also disappointment for Ireland in the 57kg featherweight competition as Michaela Walsh finished on the wrong side of a 3-2 split decision verdict against Russia’s Daria Abramova.

Abramova is now scheduled to face Stanimira Petrova in the final, after the Bulgarian’s 5-0 success against France’s Mona Mestiaen.

Maria Urakova continued Russia’s success by winning her 91kg light heavyweight bout 3-2 against Belarus’ Victoriya Kebikava, while Turkey’s Elif Guneri won 4-1 in the second semi-final against Ukraine’s Anastasiia Chernokolenko.

Finland’s Elina Gustafsson and Russia’s Iaroslava IAkushina both claimed unanimous points victories in their 69kg welterweight semi-finals against Italy’s Assunta Canfora and Germany’s Nadine Apetz to set up a bout in the final.

Kristina Tkacheva became the seventh Russian to reach a gold medal match after she was granted a walkover against Poland’s Lidia Maria Fidura in the over 81kg heavyweight division.

She is now due to face Italy’s Flavia Severin, who battled to a 3-2 success against Turkey’s Şennur  Demir.

Bulgaria’s boxer continued their impressive performances with Stoyka Zhelyazkova Petrova winning unanimously against Russia’s Viktoriia Kuleshova in the 54kg bantamweight event.

The home fighter will take on Delphine Mancini for the gold medal after the French fighter overcame Italy’s Arianna Delaurenti Giulia 3-2.

Melis Nezhdetova Yonuzova eased through to the 64kg light welterweight final, as the Bulgarian achieved a stoppage against Ukraine’s Mariia Bova Badulina.

Her opponent in the final will be Turkey’s Sema Çalışkan, a 3-2 points winner against Russia’s Ekaterina Dynnik.

There was a dominant 5-0 win for Dutch fighter Nouchka Mireille Fontijn in the 75kg middleweight competition against Germany’s Sarah Scheurich.

Fontijn is now set to face Ukraine’s Mariya Borutsa, who was a split decision 3-2 winner against Wales’ Lauren Price.

The finals are scheduled to take place tomorrow.

The top ten ranked boxers in the 51kg, 57kg, 60kg, 69kg and 75kg categories will be given quota places for next year's European Games in Minsk.
