The International Volleyball Federation's (FIVB) Ostrava Beach Open begins tomorrow in what will be the first double gender World Tour event ever held in the Czech Republic.

Previously, the country has only hosted stand-alone men's championships in 2008, 2010 and 2012 and women's events in 2014 and 2015.

The four-star competition will be played in an industrial park in the Vítkovice district of Ostrava, in what will make a unique setting for a beach volleyball tournament.

Czech Republic Olympian Barbora Hermannova said: "We are used to playing in the harbour, in the mountains, but we have never played in an industrial city with plenty of iron around, so I'm curious."

The pair of Hermannova and Marketa Slukova are ranked fourth on the World Tour standings.

They will hoping for a place on the podium at their home event, but they will face a tough challenge to do so.

The Brazilian pair of Josemari Alves and Liliane Maestrini will also compete in Ostrava.
