The 2018 International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Modern Pentathlon Championship is due to begin tomorrow in Budapest, where four events will be held across five days.

The first day of competition in Hungary’s capital will see the men’s final take centre stage.

It will be followed by the women’s final on Thursday (July 5) before a rest and culture day on Friday (July 6).

The mixed relay is scheduled for Saturday (July 7) with the team event bringing action to a close on Sunday (July 8).

The venue for swimming and fencing is the Ludovica University Sports Centre.

Orczy Park will provide the setting for laser run, while riding will be staged at the Ludovica Hussars Riding Hall.

FISU launched the World University Championship (WUC) series to take place during the even-numbered years between Universiades.

As single sport competitions, the WUCs give cities - and often universities - the chance to host major international sports events with minimal cost and complexity.

There are 34 stand-alone WUC events on the 2018 calendar.

Lodz in Poland hosted the World University Floorball Championships last week.
