Home sailors Lukasz Przybytek and Pawel Kolodzinski rose to the top of the leaderboard in the 49er class at the European Championships in the seaside town of Gdynia in Poland today.

The duo prospered on a busy day of racing at the combined 49er/FX/Nacra 17 continental event.

They placed second, third and fourth before a discarded seventh in the final race of the day to rise from fourth at the beginning of the day on 30 points.

Spain's Diego Botín and Iago Lopez enjoyed a superb day in which they enjoyed two race wins and a second place to rise to second overall, just one point off the leaders.

Argentinians Yago and Klaus Lange lie third on 40 points in a format where non-European pairs are eligible to compete but not to count in the continental standings.

Germany's Justus Schmidt and Max Boehme are fourth overall - and the third Europeans - on 41 points, with Great Britain's reigning world and European champions Dylan Fletcher-Scott and Stuart Bithell one place and two points further back.

Austrians Benjamin Bildstein and David Hussl slipped from first to 11th overall after a poor day which was only very slightly alleviated by a race victory in the last test of the day.

They had placed 17th, 20th and 16th in the previous three and now lie on 63 overall.

Norwegian duo Helene Naess and Marie Ronningen continue to lead the women's fleet with a total haul of 20 points.

They now lie six points clear of second-placed Britons Sophie Weguelin and Sophie Ashworth.

Spaniards Carla Munté Carrasco and Marta Munté Carrasco lie third on 28 points.
