Canada claimed their third victory as the two teams representing the United States continued their perfect start to the USA Softball International Cup in California.

Canada occupy top spot in Pool B following the second day of the inaugural competition at the Bill Barber Park in Irvine.

The Canadian side followed their two wins yesterday by dispatching Colombia 7-0.

USA Blue, the second-string American team competing at the tournament on home soil, have a 100 per cent record after two matches in the pool after they beat Venezuela 8-1.

Japan, who beat Mexico 5-0, are the other unbeaten team in Pool B.

In Pool A, Scrap Yard Fast Pitch, an independent women's professional softball team based in Conroe in Texas, also have two triumphs from two after they overcame Chinese Taipei 3-0.

USA Red, comprised of players who will form the nation's roster at the World Championship in the Japanese city of Chiba next month, edged China 2-0 to pick up their second win.

The event is considered a key warm-up for August's World Championship and which will also offer teams the chance to take their first step towards competing at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Action is due to continue tomorrow as the preliminary stage resumes.
