Palau continued their strong va'a performance at the Micronesian Games by completing a clean sweep of the women's titles today, while hosts Yap wrapped up all of the men's events.

The traditional paddling sport was the only to offer medals at the multi-sport Games today, with men's and women's long distance races held.

Palau's crew showed impressive endurance and stamina to win the women's gold in 1 hour 25min 39sec.

It saw them add to their women's titles over 1,500 metres and 500m which they claimed yesterday.

Pohnpei came home second, more than five minutes behind, and the bronze medal went to Guam, less than a minute further back.

Hosts Yap also added to their two sprint wins yesterday by clinching the men's endurance crown, held over 15 miles.

They won in 2:16:14 to beat the Northern Mariana Islands and Pohnpei into second and third respectively.

The minor medallists were 1min 30sec and 2.00 behind respectively.

In sweltering conditions, Palau lost a paddler about three miles from the finish and had to withdraw.

He was treated for exhaustion by medical staff.

Competition continues tomorrow with the first of the swimming medals to be decided.

All events are open water as Yap does not have a competition pool.
